Full Description

Adder’s Moss. This is a small peat-filled basin, probably an infill of ‘Kettle-hole’. Depth of over 5 metres in centre, coring in 1997 proved this. Bottom metre of coring had thin woody horizons and clay/ marl intercalations overlying a glacial clay at the base. Possibly dating to late Pleistocene according to results of coring. The spring source for Waterfall Wood stream has been located close to Adder’s Moss (1).
