Full Description
The cranial vault, orbits and maxilla of an adult human skull were recovered from Marbury Mere by an Angler in March 1998. Part of a child’s skull and some associated animal bone were also recovered in the subsequent police search of the Mere. Archaeological Contractors (Gifford & Partners Ltd) were contacted to give further assessment of the remains. They summarised that they were broadly Saxon (1).
The findings of the skulls were also reported on the Cheshire Constabulary Media newsline on the 29th April 1998 (2).
