Full Description
Brinlow Adit. Main adit entrance into Brinlow Mine workings. Driven into bottom of valley along ephemeral stream course. Narrow hand-picked ‘coffin level’ dating from the mid 18th century, driven by Charles Roe and the Macclesfield Copper Co. with the purpose of un-watering old flooded workings in Cow Lane. The Adit does not appear to have been widened later in the entrance section, and shows good examples of fine swept pickwork (1).
The further section, after the Brynlow fault is met, is distinctly smaller in cross-section (2).
