Summary
Section through North Cheshire Ridge Roman road at Stretton Airfield. The road surface here was 13.5 metres wide.
The North Cheshire Ridge Roman Road has been traced for a length of over 12km. The alignment follows the crest of the outcrop of sandstone overlooking the Mersey valley to the north. It is made up of adjoining straight lengths of road to keep close the crest of the ridge. Unusually for Roman roads in Cheshire there were drainage ditches along each side of the road.
