Full Description
Pumphouse and Hand Pump. Constructed by W. H. Smith, in the later 19th century. It has an open fronted shelter of oak, set on low sandstone wall and the gable holds an inscription. It also has 19th century timber framing. It has a tiled, pitched roof. Inside, there is a cast iron pump (with the cap missing) and a stone bucket stand in front. Both the structure and the machinery are derelict but the state of preservation is very good. It is part of the village landscape of Christleton, being in a prominent location and open to public access. The well shaft and some pipes may survive underground also. The site is of regional importance rather than national as regards the Water and Sewage Industries therefore ineligible for scheduling but other forms of protection i.e.; listing may be appropriate (1).
Inscription: "YE SHALL SERVE THE LORD AND HE SHALL BLESS THY BREAD AND THY WATER"
Red clay tile roof, Bucket stand of red and yellow sandstone. (2).
