Monument record 2945/0/5 - RAF Cranage Airfield Defences - eastern pillbox

Eastern pillbox at RAF Cranage. Part of defences of former World War II airfield RAF Cranage. One part of Scheduled Monument 34989 , which is divided into six areas.

The three upstanding Pillboxes are of local design being hexagonal in shape and of brick and concrete construction. They have an internal ricochet wall and stepped gun loopholes in each face giving a 360 degree range of fire. The eastern Pillbox stands approximately 1.5 metres high with traces of entrances on the east and west sides. It is approximately the same size as the southern Pillbox which had walls 3.8 metres long and was approximately 7.2 metres in diameter (1).
