Full Description
West Mine open cast. According to (1), this large opencast working exploited low grade copper ore leading west into the underground working of West Mine. The opencast was infilled in the 1950's, although the DCC (Derbyshire Caving Club) have opened up an access shaft into the workings at the far west end. There is some evidence of prehistoric workings close to the surface near that of the 18th and 19th centuries.
