Summary

A number of medieval metal finds found in the area. The Finds include a copper alloy oval buckles, a ten point rowel of spur, a couldron leg and a fragment of an open copper alloy bell.

Full Description

Buckle. Copper alloy oval buckle with beaded decoration on upper surface of frame. In poor condition and incomplete. 34mm x 23mm (1).

Ten point rowel of spur. Copper alloy with traces of gilding high lighted decoration which consists of rows of close-set punched arcs. Complete and in good condition. 49mm in diamter. This decorative technique can be paralleled on gilded spurs from Oxford and Sandal Castle (1).

Leg of Copper alloy Cooking pot or Skillet. Pronounced central strengthening rib on one side. Imcomplete and in poor condition. 44mm x 31mm x 18mm (1).

Buckle Frame. Copper alloy rectangular double-looped Buckle frame. Six protruding lobes on outer edge of buckle (only one lobe survive). Has two longitudinal grooves running through all lobes. A comparison indicates that wire decoration may have been set in the grooves. Incomplete. 39mm x 20mm x 6mm (1).

Buckle frame. Copper alloy trapezoidal Buckle frame with cut-sheet pin folded around bar. Punched band of chevron decoration on sloping face of the pin rest. Complete and in good condition. 35mm x 16mm x 4mm (1).

Bell Fragment. Copper alloy rim fragment of an open bell, 70mm in diameter with a 2mm wide raised band following the circumference of the bell 10mm from the rim. Incomplete but in good condition. 380mm in length (1).
