Monument record 2062/4 - Cropmark in Ring Ditch in High Legh Parish

Please read our .

Summary

A ring ditch, visible as a cropmark, identified during aerial reconnaissance. Ring ditches are commonly the remains of Bronze Age round barrows, whose central mound has been removed by ploughing or other activities. However, they can also be created by the circular drainage gullies which surrounded the round huts (known as round houses) common during throughout the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Romano-British periods. Given the proximity of these features to the adjacent settlement enclosures (CHER 2062/1-2), this is a possibility.
