An area of fields labeled '...Wich Field and pits' on the 1838 Tithe Award. This may suggest small scale brine extraction. Wich is the Saxon name for a place of salt production or industrial activity; hence the many salt producing towns that end in "wich". E.g. Nantwich, Northwich and Middlewich.
