Ornamental lake in Crewe Hall Park. Designed by Humphry Repton in 1791. Lake was c. 800m E-W x 300m N-S with a tail extending east to Lagger's Bank and Crewe Bridge East. Lake was drained in 1941 after the dam collapsed (RN:200/2/2). Area now planted with mature poplars.

The main feature of the landscape park was the lake immediately north of the gardens, which was c 800m long from east to west and 300m wide, and with a tail extending east to Lagger's Bank and Crewe Bridge East on the eastern border of the park. The north and east drives from the Hall were carried across the tail of the lake on a bridge. The present bridge is an elegant concrete structure, probably of the very early C20. In 1941 the lake was drained after the dam gave way, and its area is now planted with mature poplars.

The lake, located within the gardens associated with Crewe Hall and constructed in 1791, was achieved by the damming of the Englesea Brook. The dam collapsed in 1941 and the area of the lake is now woodland, but its former existence is evidenced by the remains of the dam and the ruins of a boat-house, capped by a statue of Neptune on the former water's edge.
