Full Description

Tilstone Hall was described by Webb around 1623 as "the lofty pile of that sweet and delicate seat" and was built around 1600 by Thomas Wilbraham of Woodhey. The hall was damaged during the Civil War and, with the rebuilding of Woodhey Hall in c.1690, fell into decline, to be demolished around 1740 (1). The farmer reported a substantial amount of brick and rubble at the given NGR during ploughing. This site appears to be an artificial platform and the hedge to the north is based upon a stone foundation. However, it is a little distant from the folly, so the hall may have stood elsewhere (3).
