Full Description

Cast bronze scabbard chape of Piggots Group III. A heart shaped casting with U sectioned arms. Has a circular central opening with an inverted tear shaped opening beneath. Red enamel inlay frames the circular opening on one side of the chape; traces of tow circular settings with central pins survive on the other side and perhaps for the attachment of enamel studs. 40mm long x 27mm wide and 9mm thick. Possibly dates to 1st century BC. Found by metal detector (1).
