Summary

Clothes fastener (hook tag) of Tudor Style, dated 16th, possibly 17th century, It consists of a rectangular gold mount with relief heart and pellet decoration and eight evenly spaced lobes protuding from the edge of the mount. A rectangular silver loop and hook are attached to the back. Fasteners of this type are known in copper alloy or sometimes silver. According to the British Museum the use of gold and silver is most unusual.

Full Description

Clothes fastener (hook tag) of Tudor Style. Consists of a rectangular gold mount with relief heart and pellet decoration and eight evenly spaced lobes protuding from the edge of the mount. A rectangular silver loop and hook are attached to the back. Dimensions of the mount - 9mm x 13mm. Length including hook is 18mm. Fasteners of this type are known in copper alloy or sometimes silver- according to the British Museum the use of gold and silver is most unusual. Dated 16th, possibly 17th century. Found by metal detector.
