Summary

Grade II listed building. Formerly a farmhouse, now a house and dated to 1611 with some 19th century alterations. It is timber framed with plastered nogging on a stone base. The building has a lobby-entry plan with crosswing. It has regular small framing with substantial angle braces. There is an original window lintel inscribed SMR WR 1611.

Full Description

Wynnstay Farmhouse, Tarporley Road. Formerly farmhouse, now house. Dated 1611 with some C19 alterations. Timber framed with plastered nogging on stone base. Tile roof and one ridge brick chimney. Lobby-entry plan with crosswing. One and two-storey, five-bay front. Regular small framing with substantial angle braces. Left end bay is crosswing with wooden casements. Two and three-light casements in remainder with original shaped lintel in the fourth bay inscribed SMR WR 1611. Interior: Entry into small lobby, hall to right with blocked inglenook with bead-moulded bressumer now containing fine early C19 cast-iron range. Winder staircase around far side of fireplace. Chamfered ceiling beams and exposed joists throughout. Full architectural description (1).
