<1> Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME), 1986, Peel Hall (Report). SCH2626.
Garden Features at Peel Hall. To S of mound (RN:1902/2/1) alignment of garden continued by 2 parallel ditched features,105m apart. W ditch is sharp-sided feature, 0.3-0.4m deep, with positioned trees along it. Appears to overlie ridge & furrow. E ditch is 0.3m deep, badly spread by recent ploughing. Midway between these 2 ditches & parallel to them is raised driveway 0.3-0.4m high, with ditch 0.2m deep along W side. Alignment closed at S end by hedge- line, and 2 stone building footings may represent remains of pair of entrance lodges, shown on map 1842. Running NNW from stone footings is a shallow ditch which may predate other features. This group of features was very irregularly planned. RCHM suggest it was C18 extension in tree-planted alignments of landscape layout with ditched mound as focus
