Original but reduced and blocked garden walls survive in the garden walls to the east side of the present building, which looks up the valley of the Ashton Brook.

"The present stable area to the north-east was probably a former walled courtyard or garden….the remains of one of two former gateways which are in direct alignment and form part of the walling in this area. The footings of a larger gateway beneath the east garden wall were discovered by the owner in 2015. This is centrally located along the east wall of the former garden/courtyard area directly in front of the house and aligned with a central main entrance. Lack of evednece to suggest there was a carriage driveway leading to the house from the east might indicate the gateway was a visual attraction rather than a functional accessway"
