Summary

Sundial in Churchyard of St John the Baptist. Plate dated 1596, baluster late C18. Buff sandstone. Square base carries a tall column. Conversion to a sundial is indicative of Catholic recusants protecting the standing stone crosses from being totally demolished during the reformation.

Sundial in Churchyard of St John the Baptist. Plate dated 1596, baluster late C18. Buff sandstone. Square base carries a tall column baluster with a moulded cap in a different stone. Simple copper plate and gnomon has inscription GD 156 and two sets of lines and numbers, one modern in style, implying the plate has been brought in or reset.
