Full Description
Canal service and repair depot at Winwick Quay, situated on the east side of a canal basin 70m x 19m and 2.5 - 2.7m deep. Repair yard 25 x 30m behind quay bounded by three buildings. The largest, built in 1841, is 38 x 9.5m and functioned as the workshop and store, still in near original condition. The other buildings are much less impressive and have been substantially altered. To the north of the yard and repair shop lies a group of buildings known as the Quay Fold Cottages. One of these was an alehouse and another may have functioned as a nonconformist meeting house. To the south of the Quay was located a dry dock, 21m long x 8.5m wide, with a depth of 2m. A good example of its type & in good condition. Detailed description of above features in (1).
