Summary

The original station was built in 1837 when the Grand Junction Railway was opened though it was re-built in 1868. The Grand Junction Railway was built between 1830 and 1850 and linked Liverpool and Manchester to Birmingham. This station is still in use with late 19th century modernisation. It was connected to the Warrington and Stockport Railway in 1853 and the St Helens railway (which connected the line to the Birkenhead, Lancashire and Cheshire Junction Railway) in 1850.

Full Description

Original station built in 1837 when the Grand Junction Railway was opened. Re-built 1868. Still in use, late 19th century modernisation. Connected to the Warrington and Stockport Railway in 1853 and the St Helens railway which connected the line to the Birkenhead, Lancashire and Cheshire Junction Railway in 1850 (1) (2).
