Summary

A possible Roman camp kettle found c 1718 at Coddington. However, it has also been suggested that it is possibly Late Bronze Age in date. Stukely records the discovery of a camp kettle of copper, dug up at Bodington, near Stretton. Watkin suspects that Coddington is meant rather than Bodington. Found c.1718 at Coddington. Drawings of the base of the kettle by Stukeley and James Theobald show some of the eight strenghtening plates riveted to the vessel by as many as five rivets. In common with most other buckets of the Irish-British series, the Coddington kettle had a high shoulder with staple rings hanging inside the rim. The discovery makes a useful addition to the small but growing number of known vessels of this class. The exact findspot and date of discovery are unknown.
