Summary

There is a reference to a mill documents dating to 1349. The tithe award shows a parcel of land called the "great mill field" as plot 150 and "cornmill, outbuildings and garden" as plot 149. These plots are assumed to refer to Grappenhall Mill. There is a brick and slate roofed mill here but it may not be on the exact site of the original mill. There was also mill near here shown on Burdett's 18th century map of Cheshire.

Full Description

Reference to mill in 1349 in Inquisition Post Mortem. Tithe award shows a parcel of land called the "great mill field" as plot 150 and "cornmill, outbuildings and garden" as plot 149. These plots are assumed to refer to Grappenhall Mill (TA DDV 275) (1). There is a brick and slate roofed mill, but evidence of water feed has been lost due to road improvement works. This may not be the eaxct site of the original mill. There was a mill near here shown on Burdett's map of 1775 (2)
