Please read our .

Summary

A section across the moat at Bewsey Old Hall in 1983-5 revealed the lower courses of a large brick wall-part which is part of an ornate 17th century terraced garden. The remains of over 20 highly decorated urns which once stood on the wall had fallen into the moat as it silted up. At the front of the hall were wall foundations and semi-circular steps. A bridge across the moat that was probably Georgian was also found. This garden is situated to the north and east of the Elizabethan manor house. The east and north arms of the moat were revetted with a brick wall to create the garden terrace.

The east and north arms of the moat were revetted with a brick wall which was associated with 17th century activities to create the garden terrace. This effectiviely destroyed the stratigraphical relationship between the platform and the moat.
