Summary

Brownfield's Almshouses were established by a gift of twenty pounds in the will of John Brownfield in 1697. Further endowments were received in the 18th century. By 1828, 4 houses belonged to this charity but by 1874 they became ruinous and were sold. Part of the endowment was lost and the remainder has been invested, the annual income being distributed by the Rector among poor widows. There are no survivng remains of these buildings today.

Full Description

Brownfield's Almshouses were established by a gift of twenty pounds in the will of John Brownfield in 1697. Further endowments in 1704 & 1724(1). By 1828 4 houses belonged to this charity & in 1874 they became ruinous & were sold. Part of the endowment was lost & the remainder has been invested, the annual income being distributed by the Rector among poor widows(2). No remains today.
