Kingnall or Kinknall was another quasi-manorial estate, which in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was the seat of an Urmston family. William Urmston died in 1600, holding the capital messuage and lands of John Culcheth by the hundredth part of a knight's fee. Richard his son and heir was ten years old.

Kinknall Hall, is in good repair but at the moment is unoccupied, it is, from its appearance a late nineteenth century building, the outbuildings being contemporary. There is no structural evidence of an earlier house. Perambulation revealed no surface indication of a former moat. [F.D. Colquhoun, 25/03/1959].

This map depicts a building, labelled Old Kingnall hall, enclosed on four sides by a moat. Possible bridges or causeways are depicted immediately north of the moat’s south-western and south-eastern corners. An L or T-shaped building is located to the immediate east of the moat.
<4> Ordnance Survey, 1893-96, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Lancashire, SJ6494, 1893 (Maps and Plans). SCH3847.
Only a short section corresponding with the northern half of the eastern arm of the moat survives. Part of the building depicted on the 1849 map (see 4) may have been incorporated as part of a new large building. The new hall lies to it’s east.
<5> Ordnance Survey, 1927-1928, Ordnance Survey Second Revision County Series (Epoch 3) 25 inch to 1 mile - Lancashire, SJ6494, 1928 (Maps and Plans). SCH5041.
<6> Environment Agency, 2003-2020, Environment Agency LiDAR Surveys, Composite DSM 1m 2022 (Digital Archive). SCH7819.
The site has been levelled to create a rectangular area (a manège) surrounded by a substantial earth bank.
<7> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R, 19/01/2024 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.
The construction of the manège may have impacted the potential for the survival of archaeological remains associated with the manor house and it's precursors, and the potential for deposits, which may contain paleoenvironmental information, within the moat.
