Summary

The remains of a windmill mound survive as an earthwork within this field. It has been suggested that the mound on which the windmill was placed utilised an existing Bronze Age barrow.

Full Description

A feature resembling a mound or small hillock is shown (TPW 08/08/1980)

Mound located in Windmill Field, Witherwin Farm, Appleton. Thought to be a tumulus later used as a mill mound. Shown as a tumulus on the Ordnance Survey 1 inch map of 1842 (see 2) (NG 07/11/1978).

The plot name is recorded as wind mill field and plantation.
