Summary

A possible barrow is recorded at this site thought there is now no trace of it. Round barrows are a type of burial mound, particularly used in the Bronze Age. Mounds of earth and stone were placed over a burial or cremation. A single barrow could be re-used for several later burials.

Full Description

A possible barrow. 'A third barrow of an equal size, formerly existed about a quarter of a mile to the east' of the 2 on either side of High Field Lane, Winwick (RN:571/1+2) (1). No trace of this barrow which may be the same as RN:572/1/1 (2).
