Summary

An earthen bank has been suggested as part of the burh defence here but may be a landscape gardening feature. It is an L-shaped bank, the northern end destroyed by building construction. It is not possible to determine whether the bank forms part of the Burh or is of more recent origin.

Full Description

Earthen bank suggested as part of burh defences in grounds of former Greenfield House, but maybe merely a landscape gardening feature SJ 6545 8740 - 6550 8748. L-shaped bank 1.2m high x 5m wide. North-east arm is 36m long, northern end destroyed by building construction. South-east arm is 115m long, disturbed during construction of the gateway to Chaigeley School (formerly Greenfield House). Not possible to determine whether bank forms part of the Burh or is of more recent origin (1).
