Summary

Stocks attached to the west side of Market Cross. The present stocks are oak in square slotted sandstone supports with rounded heads. They are probably 17th century, but were restored in 1897. A plaque on the stocks states that they are a reproduction and that the originals are in the Council Offices, though the present whereabouts of originals are not known.

Full Description

Stocks attached to the west side of the stone outcrop on which the cross stands.Present stocks are oak in square slotted sandstone supports with rounded heads.Probably 17th century, but restored 1897 (1). A plaque on the stocks states that they are a reproduction and that the originals are in the Council Offices (2). Present whereabouts of originals not known (3).
