Summary

A palstave without side loops was found at Ackers Common, Latchford. A palstave is a type of bronze age cast in a two piece mould. It has flanges to allow a wooden or bone handle to be hafted to the axe and a ridge in the centre to stop the handle being forced forwards during use. Some types have a loop to aid the hafting.

Full Description

A palstave without side loops was found at Ackers Common, Latchford (1).It was exhibited by Dr Kendrick from the Warrington Museum collection (2).Flanged loopless palstave with crescentic blade, stopridge & trident ribbing (3).Given to Warrington Museum in August 1858. It is 6ins long & the blade is 3ins wide (4).
