Full Description
Neolithic axe hammer found 4 inches beneath sand near Stockton Heath. Exhibited at a meeting of the Society of Antiquaries of London in Oct 1934 by Mr A.L.Armstrong (1). Mr Armstrong's collection was presented to Warrington Museum. An axe hammer there, which may be the one referred to above is 10 inches long, 2 3/4 inches thick x 4 1/4 inches wide. The hole for a shaft is 1 3/4 inches in diam & is countersunk on both sides. Possibly of Bronze Age type (2).
