Full Description
Site of Wilderspool Bridge. Referred to in a list of bridges within the Hundred of Bulklowe presented by the Constables & Overseers of the Highways in 1618, as 'Wilders Poole Bridge. To be maintained by the Inhabitants of Lachford, Appleton, Over Walton, Nether Walton'. It appears under the heading of 'Cart Bridges' & is separately listed from Warrington & Latchford bridges (RN:448/1/2 + 452/1/1)(1). No siting evidence. No evidence that the bridge crossed the Mersey & it was probably on a subsidiary stream(2).
