Summary

Site of Wilderspool Bridge. It is referred to in a list of bridges within the Hundred of Bulklowe presented by the Constables and Overseers of the Highways in 1618, as 'Wilders Poole Bridge. To be maintained by the Inhabitants of Lachford, Appleton, Over Walton, Nether Walton'. It appears under the heading of 'Cart Bridges' and is separately listed from Warrington and Latchford bridges. There is no information about where this bridge was and it may have been on a subsidiary stream rather than crossing the Mersey itself.

Full Description

Site of Wilderspool Bridge. Referred to in a list of bridges within the Hundred of Bulklowe presented by the Constables & Overseers of the Highways in 1618, as 'Wilders Poole Bridge. To be maintained by the Inhabitants of Lachford, Appleton, Over Walton, Nether Walton'. It appears under the heading of 'Cart Bridges' & is separately listed from Warrington & Latchford bridges (RN:448/1/2 + 452/1/1)(1). No siting evidence. No evidence that the bridge crossed the Mersey & it was probably on a subsidiary stream(2).
