Full Description
Early Bronze Age axe found under a log near the Dog & Dart Inn, Grappenhall. 5.25 inches long with an expanded cutting edge & narrow shaft (1).Varley considers it to be of Irish origin (2). Axe donated to Warrington Museum in September 1860.It is badly pitted & corroded & measures 5.25 inches with an expanded cutting edge of c.3 .5 inches.No precise find spot (3). Ref 8 records found beneath a bog in Grappenhall area (4).
