Summary

The site of a possible windmill inferred by place-name evidence. Crusaders returning from mainland Europe are credited with the introduction of windmills in Britain and there were many operating by the end of the 12th century. There are no surviving examples of medieval mills.

This source records the field name of Wind(y) Mill Field in Hatton township.

The digitised apportionment records "plantation in Windmill field" at SJ 6046 8096. Circa 175 metres to the south is "Windmill Field" in Higher Whitley township (EDT 202/2, 1842). Further south is Grimsditch Mill (CHER 7484).
