Palstave found at Croft (Southworth) and deposited at Warrington Museum.

Flat celt found at Southworth near Warrington - not in good preservation, but it seems to be without side flanges, and almost of flat section, broken only by the definite ridge which was designed to hold back the handle. Its length is three inches from edge to ridge, and four and a half inches over all the preserved portion. The edge is not out-curving, measuring only one and three eighths at its greatest width. It is possible that the portion of the tang which is broken was pierced for a rivet hole, a very unusual feature. Illustrated and photograph.

Shield Decoration; damaged. Sources listed. SJ6293

Palstave. Stray Find from Southworth, near Winwick. Roughly cast with slight side flanges and prominent stop ridge across its breath. The cutting wedge is narrow and there is a slight shield like pattern on the blade.
