Summary

About 1840 a medieval ceramic vessel was discovered in the churchyard at Winwick. It is fractured and a large part of it is missing. The pottery has a reddish hue with a light yellow-green lead glaze. It represents a knight on a charger. Liquid was poured into the vessel through the head of the rider. The head of the horse, which is now broken off, formed the spout.

Full Description

About 1840 a medieval terra-cotta vessel was disovered in the churchyard at Winwick. Vessel is fractured & a large part is missing. Reddish hue with a light yellow-green lead glaze. Represents a knight on a charger. Liquid was poured into the vessel through the head of the rider. The head of the horse, which is now broken off, formed the spout (1).
