Full Description
A fragment of a logboat was dredged from the Mersey, in the area of Westy Barn, c.l5 ft from the Cheshire side, on 8 April 1933.It is 9 ft long x 2 ft 4 ins wide and 5 ins deep (1). Much of the oak logboat is missing and the surviving fragments are badly warped and have fungal decay.Warrington Museum records indicate that only the bottom, 2.77m long, with fragmentary sides, was recovered, the ends having been broken off square.Near each end was a c.l00mm thick transverse ridge.Two holes vertically through the bottom of the boat (2).
