Prehistoric timber piling was found in the area near Warrington Docks entrance

Sj607 864 ?IA pile-dwelling. Many piles set in two irregular lines 1m apart and interspersed with rows of stakes crossed in herringbone fashion.Associated with oyster shells and sticks and sedges in horizontal layer. Reference to Boscow 14-15

Prehistoric date suggested in sources but no dating evidence to support this. A further site identified as a possible Iron Age Crannog was found to be post medieval (see CHER498/1)
