Summary

Parts of a quern and several other remains were found in the peninsula formed by the trapped meander of the Mersey. Early writers placed the Roman settlement in this area, before the Wilderspool site was located but no structural remains were noticed when the old Quay Canal was built across the area around 1800.

Parts of a quern & several other remains were found in the peninsula formed by the trapped meander of the Mersey.Early writers placed the Roman settlement in this area, before the Wilderspool site was located (RN:435), but no structural remains were noticed when the old Quay Canal was built across the area c.1800 (1).
