Full Description
The courthouse probably dates from the end of the 15th century. Fragments of columns from it may indicate an earlier date (1), but these may originally have come from the friary (2). Earliest records of the courthouse appear in the 17th century (3). Courthouse was licenced as a meeting house for nonconformists in late 17th century (4). Site is now occupied by a modern market hall. Suggestion that column frags may have been obtained from the friary was refuted by Mr J.P.Rimmer, Curator of Warrington Museum (5).
