Full Description
Railway viaduct over the Weaver Valley built in 1837 by Joseph Locke (George Stephenson was the senior engineer). Constructed of red sandstone with 20 arches, each with a 63 ft (19.2m) span. Dutton Viaduct is the longest on the Grand Junction Railway and an early example of a major railway viaduct. It has stylistic similarities with the Sankey Viaduct on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway which was built by the same engineers 3 years earlier (2&4).
