Summary
Railway cutting north of Dutton Viaduct, presumably built for the Grand Junction Railway in 1837. Railway cuttings are artificial "valleys" dug through hills to allow the railways to be laid level. The Grand Junction Railway was built between 1830 and 1850 and linked Liverpool and Manchester to Birmingham.
