Summary
Railway cutting on west side of line but embanked on the east. It was probably built for the Grand Junction Railway in 1837. Railway cuttings are artificial "valleys" dug through hills to allow the railways to be laid level. The Grand Junction Railway which was built between 1830 and 1850 and linked Liverpool and Manchester to Birmingham.
