Full Description

Saxon period finds, including coins, late period pottery, a silver ring and a pin, recovered from excavations at the Northgate Brewery Site between 1972 and 1975, in addition to reports of a ‘cultivated soil layer’ post-dating the Roman buildings at this location, onto which a gravel track way (CHER 9030) was built, suggest Saxon period cultivation of this area (1, 2, 4).
