Building record 839/1 - Little Budworth Corn Mill

Summary

A Watermill built out of stone blocks on the lower floor, with bricks above and a slated roof. The wheel and all the machinery has gone and the building is now used as a store. The mill pond (Budworth Pool) is on the west side. It is shown on maps of Cheshire by Burdett (1777), Greenwood, (1819), Swire and Hutchings, (1830) and named Walk Mill on Bryant's map of 1831. Summary from record 6592: CRITERION E: BUILDINGS INCLUDED IN THE VALE ROYAL BOROUGH COUNCIL HISTORIC BUILDINGS SURVEY 1977 - 79 A disused flour mill of the bank barn type. It is brick built in English Bond (3 rows stretchers). The windows are unglazed and shuttered, there is a square head to a door on the upper level. The rafters are exposed at the eaves. It has lime based concrete back steps (a later addition) J Norris notes that: "The building is of stone blocks to the lower floor, with bricks above and slated roof. Lime based concrete back steps (later addition)
Brickwork: English bond (3 rows stretchers)
Windows unglazed and shuttered.
Doors: Square head to door on upper level.
Eaves: rafters exposed at eaves.
