Full Description
Documentary evidence records the granting of land in Handbridge from Richard, son of Alfred to the Priory of Chester in the 12th century. (1)
There is subsequently a reference to a vacant and ruinous building belonging to the piriory in Kettle’s Croft (later Edgar's Field) west of the Dee Bridge. Although never recorded as such, it is believed to have been a chapel of St Mary’s Priory. (1)
