Full Description
Mrs A Muir reports that remains of a substantial moat can be traced around the present Crowton Hall and its farmbuildings. The east arm is a water-filled pond, the north and south arms show as dry ditches. The present hall is C18 brick. Findings to be published as thesis for Landscape History Diploma, Chester College (1). According to Hanshall, the site is not of antiquity - 'Crewood and Crowton halls are occupied as Farmhouses and possess no perticular features of style or antiquity' (2). Moat not shown on OS map 1st editon (3).
