Full Description
The building has a pre-1910 date (2) as it is not present on the Ordnance Survey map of that year but not on the preceding OS map of 1872. (1) The 1872 map does illustrate the existence of signalling points to allow the transfer of trains between the Cheshire Lines Committee's Northwich - Chester Railway; a line to the industrial complexes of north Northwich; and small collection of sidings between the junctions of these two railways. However by 1910 the sidings have been significantly enlarged - a possible consequence of increased productivity at the industrial complexes in Northwich - and resulted in the replacement of a signal box for the points. The signal box is no longer present on the 1973 Ordnance Survey map. (3)
