Summary

The building has a pre-1910 date as it is present on the Ordnance Survey map of that year but not on the OS map of 1872. The addition of a railway loop connecting the Cheshire Lines Committee's Northwich - Chester Railway and the line to the industrial complexes of north Northwich between these two dates is likely to have created a need for signal box. The Cheshire Lines Committee was set up in 1865 and was responsible for the creation a series of railway routes linking the west of the county around Stockport and Knutsford to Northwich and Chester.

Full Description

The building has a pre-1910 date (2) as it is present on the Ordnance Survey map of that year but not on the OS map of 1872. (1) The addition of a railway loop connecting the Cheshire Lines Committee's Northwich - Chester Railway, (3) and the line to the industrial complexes of north Northwich between these two dates would have presumably premeditated the arrival of the signal box.
