Full Description
Pollen analysis of the floor of a postglacial lake at Hatchmere, Norley by H J B Birks, J E Young and V R Switsur has great value for the study of early and mid postglacial human economies in Cheshire. Analysis revealed the following vegetational succession:- a hazel increase dated to 7729+/-140 bc; a marked hazel increase at 7630+/- 140 bc; the first elm increase at 7469+/- 120 bc; an oak increase at 6826+/- 130 bc; a pine maximum at 6390+/- 5 bc; an alder increase at 5453+/-114 bc; the start of the first 'landnam' phase at 3319+/- 80 bc and the end of the first 'landnam' phase at 2743+/-90 bc.
